We got great news in school last week. A letter came from An Taisce to inform us that our application for the international Green Flag award had been successful!! The letter stated An Taisce were “highly impressed by our programme and had no hesitation granting our school Green Flag status”. Mr. Cronin was so proud, he gave the whole school a night off homework to celebrate.
We will be presented with our flag at a special award ceremony in May.
Well done to everyone, especially the boys and girls on the committee who give up their lunch breaks for our monthly meetings.
The boys in Room 13 were treated to some pancakes today. They had Hershey’s Chocolate Sauce and lemon and sugar for their toppings.
Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Tuesday or Pancake day) is the day in February or March immediately preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), and is celebrated in some countries by consuming pancakes. In others, especially those where it is called Mardi Gras or some translation thereof, this is a carnival day, and also the last day of “fat eating” or “gorging” before the fasting period of Lent.
All children received the latest catalogue in school today. Orders can be sent in by next Monday (6th March). Books can be ordered online or by using the form as usual. Go to http://schools.scholastic.ie/st-josephs-cbs to browse the latest books and order online.
The children were also given a World Book Day token which is worth €1.50. These can be used to buy one of ten specially published World Book Day Books. A list of these books is available here. The books are usually available to buy in the Bookstation on the Main Street.
World Book Day Tokens can be used on the book club order. Just deduct €1.50 from the total cost and send the token in with the order.
