Workshop with Tarsila Kruse

Mrs. Lawlor’s 6th Class attended an art workshop in Gorey Library last November. The workshop was given by Tarila Kruse, an illustrator of children’s books. Tarsila’s first picturebook, Ná Gabh ar Scoil! has been shortlisted for both the CBI Children’s Book of the Year Awards 2016 and the Gradam Réics Carló 2016 (Book of The Year for Young People in Irish).

The workshop was interactive and the children produced some interesting pieces themselves using Tarsila’s Quick Drawing Cheat Sheet.

I think we have a few illustrators of the future in our midst!

Tour to Dunmore Adventure

The final tour of 6th Class took place on the 2nd of June. We had a great day at Dunmore Adventure in County Waterford. The boys spent the morning on the Wibit Wipeout Aquapark, had their lunch and then spent the afternoon in the Land Activity Zone where they did archery, climbing and caving.

Green Schools Week

We are all working really hard  for our first ever Green Schools Flag. We have a dedicated Green Schools Committee in our school. The committee is made up of Ms. Kenny, Mrs. Lawlor and two pupils from each class in the school. We meet once a month at big break.

We had our first Green Schools Week at the end of April (Monday 25th to Friday 29th). On Tuesday the 26th, Cliona Connolly from Wexford County Council came to talk to us about Litter and Waste. The talk was very informative. Cliona gave us great ideas about how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Jackie and Alan have noticed a big difference in the amount of rubbish in our bins already so keep up the good work everybody! Remember, the best class will get a prize!

We bought some new paper pickers, buckets and gloves to spring clean the school grounds. Some classes made a special effort to go out during Green Schools Week and with the fine weather other classes will get their chance to go out too. Here are boys from Mrs. Lawlor’s class doing their bit!

Friday the 29th was Wear Green Day. Everybody looked lovely and there was great excitement that day.
