World Book Day

As part of World Book Day, we are entering the Design a National Book Token Competition. We had to design a book-themed National Book Token. A panel of judges will select a winner and runner up in each category. One overall winner’s design will be made into a real National Book Token and distributed to bookshops nationwide in time for Christmas.

Scratch

The boys in Mrs. Lawlor’s 6th Class have been learning Scratch since September last year. We do it every Friday morning on the school’s netbooks.

Scratch is a free application, developed by the MIT Media Lab, which allows users create and share their own interactive stories, animations and games. It is a form of computer programming but it easier to use than traditional computer programming languages as it consists of graphical blocks which snap together.

Scratch is used to support Literacy and Numeracy and can help children sharpen their logical thinking and problem-solving skills. A link to the the Scratch website can be found here.

School Tour November 2015

The 6th Class Boys from Ms. Lawlor’s and Mrs Carter’s classes had their first school tour of the year in November. It was to the Croke Park Museum and Stadium and also to the Museum of Natural History aka the Dead Zoo. The last stop of the tour was McDonald’s in Stillorgan. A great day was had by all.

Our next tour will be in April to the museum at Collins’ Barracks, The National Wax Museum Plus and the Pearse Museum in Rathfarnam.
