World Book Day in Room 1

We celebrated World Book Day in style in our class! The boys and girls dressed up as characters from their favourite books. We went on a book hunt around the school looking for quotes from popular books and we had to guess what books they are from. We entered a competition to design a book cover for our favourite book. Mrs. Coughlan came to our class and read “The Gruffalo” to us. We thoroughly enjoyed World Book Day this year!

Congratulations to Lena who won the book cover competition with her beautiful picture of Cinderella.

Congratulations also to Insiya who was the winner of the junior section of the Green Schools travel poster competition.

The Puppet Theatre – Room 1

Our Aistear theme in March and April was the puppet theatre. We had great fun using the puppets to put on different shows for our group. At the construction station we built theatres and we used the construction straws to make imaginative characters and creations – some very long snakes were seen slithering in the classroom! At the art station we designed and stitched our very own puppets. We also worked on our shape booklets.

Vets and Pets – Room 1

The children participated in various stations during Aistear with a focus on the theme “The Vet”. At the role play station we had vets, a receptionist and animals owners with some very unwell pets! At the construction station we used blocks to create homes for the animals. At the fine motor station we enjoyed using farm animal stencils. We played an animal memory game. At the art station each child made a paper plate pet and we did some spring and Easter themed art.

An African Market in room 1

In our Over the Moon book we learned all about Ella’s trip to Africa to visit her granny. During aistear, we recreated an African market and were busy at the stall selling fruit and vegetables. We also threaded shapes to make tribal jewellery for sale! We made fruit and vegetable jigsaws. At the fine motor station we used playdoh to make different fruits and vegetables. We played a fruit and vegetable shopping game. At the art station we enjoyed printing different fruits.

For art this month we also made penguins and polar bears.
