Miss Doyle JI School Closure Work 25th-29th May
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all well. I really enjoyed seeing your work and rocket masterpieces in the garden over the last week. You are all doing very well with your work and I am very proud of you.
Again, my email address is katiedoylestjosephs@gmail.com for anyone who would like to send me the children’s work or if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you to all of the parents for your ongoing support.
I have outlined more work for the week ahead and included a timetable as usual. As always you do not need to complete everything; just do as much as you can. I have included some work from the school books for those who collected the school books but have also included printable worksheets and interactive pages that could be completed on your computer if you do not have the books.
A fun activity for this week: (optional)
(A story to watch and listen to if you wish)
Those who collected the school books last week would have found a paper cut-out of a person included with the books. For those who could not collect the books you can print the page below and have your child cut it out or draw a similar shape on paper.
Decorate the person and give him/her a name.
Bring your little character along with you when you are playing each day and then draw a picture and write a sentence in your writing copy/on a piece of paper about your fun (just like when Everywhere bear had adventures with you and you drew and wrote in his book). If you would like to send me your favourite picture from the week I would love to see them.

Reading:
- This week the children will be learning the key words from My Little Box of Books book 10-The Spaceship. The keywords are ‘we’ ‘big’ and ‘They’. The children would have previously learned the word ‘we’ as a tricky word and ‘they’ as a word from another reader and they can sound out the word ‘big’. Therefore it is just revision this week. Flashcards below for sight word games.
SW and TW flashcards 25-29 May
Tricky words:
- New tricky words this week: there and they
there:
- First sound out the word phonetically and point out that when we sound out the word like this it sounds funny, it is not a real word. Therefore it is a tricky word.
- Tell the child that in this word the letter ‘e’ is ‘tricking’ us by staying silent. Then sound out the word with this tricky part /th/-/e/-/r/ ‘there’.
they:
- First sound out the word phonetically and point out that when we sound out the word like this it sounds funny, it is not a real word. Therefore it is a tricky word.
- Tell the child that in this word the letters ‘ey’ are ‘tricking’ us by saying ‘ai’. Then sound it out with the tricky part /th/ /ai/ ‘they’
- Worksheets:
Tricky Word worksheets ‘there’ and ‘they’
- Tricky word games:
-bean bag toss; write the tricky words along with some previously learned words on paper plates or pieces of paper and lay them out on the floor. The child stands at a distance and throws a beanbag or other object then reads the word they land on.
-high fives; print the page below or draw handprints on paper and write the tricky words on them. Stick them up in a row or in places around the house and ask your child to ‘high five’ and read the word as they pass.
Dictation:
- Dictation sentences: Call out one full word at a time (without sounding it out yourself) and see if your child can sound out and write the letters independently.

- The moon is out.
- I clap my hands.
- The frog is green.
- The king has a big hat.
