Busy in the Greenhouse
6th class have been very busy tending to the potatoes, daffodils, garlic and crocus flowers they planted. Lots of weeding to be done and a great chance to monitor the plants’ growth.
Plant Study in Room 20
We have been taking care of our plants in the school greenhouse for the last month. Each day a group of pupils in responsible for watering our plants. The students went out yesterday to see if there was any progress and weeded the flower beds. We researched the parts of the crocus plant and what we should expect to see in Spring.
Planting Garlic and Crocus Bulbs
On Friday, 6th class planted garlic and crocus bulbs in our school polytunnel. We weeded, watered and loosened the soil before planting our garlic. The children separated the garlic into its segments or cloves and planted them 20cm apart in the bed. We plan to make garlic butter in the spring when the garlic is ready to harvest.
The children each planted their crocus bulb in their own pots. These flowers will bloom purple, yellow or white. It will be a lovely surprise to see what colour our flower is in the spring. We will be studying these plants and how they grow in our science lessons this week. In the meantime, we will keep an eye on their progress and water them each school day
