Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping safe and well and doing your very best to do some schoolwork while we away from our classroom.
I have put topics together that you can be working on. Just do your best and hopefully we will be back to school very soon.
Maths.
New Wave Mental Maths: Continue completing Mon-Thurs, Problem Solving and Friday Reviews.
Tables: Revise all multiplication and division tables through Hit the Button (on topmarks.co.uk) interactive game online or ask the children tables from their table book at random. Tables are a vital part of 3rd class Maths so the more practice the better.
Measures: Weight: 1kg=1000g
- Estimate, compare, measure and record the weight of a wide variety of objects using appropriate metric units (kg, g) EG: everyday objects, books, food items lighter and heavier than 1 kg. Remember: To weigh objects lighter than a kg, we use grammes (g).
Ask the children to estimate the weight of various items from the food cupboards etc. (cover the weights on the items)
(Handle and compare objects as an aid to estimation.)
Once they have made a guess, check the actual measurement using a scales or checking the actual weight printed on the item. (Write down the estimates and actual measurements of each item).
Have a discussion about the difference in the estimate given and the actual weight of the food item/object.
- Objects showing that there is no constant relationship between weight and size.
Some items be very large in size but do not weigh a large amount and some items might be small in size but do not weigh a small amount.
Have a discussion and come up with some examples. (Write them down.)
Using weight in our every day life.
The best way to explore the topic of weight is through our everyday lives.
If time allows, do some baking and cooking with the children and ask them to weigh out the ingredients for you.
Ask them to take note of all the weights that are marked on the items they find in the presses.
Children: Remember not to mix weight up with capacity. (Capacity: Liquids only)
Look for g and kg on the items.
Extra Task: Write down how you made the cake/buns/pie/sandwich/smoothie using your fantastic knowledge of Procedural Writing.
