Hello parents/boys and girls,
I hope you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.
Thanks to those who have been in touch with photos and videos. I appreciate the feedback and I’m here to answer questions at any point. My email address is mkirwanji@hotmail.com.
Keep up all the wonderful work girls and boys! Mums and Dads, thank you for your amazing support and dedication.
Below are suggested activities, please do not feel under pressure to complete all the activities I have listed.
Regards,
Máire Kirwan
English
Phonics:
Continue to revise all the Jolly Phonics sounds in your Sounds Copy, paying particular attention to the digraphs (two letter sounds).
Blending sounds in words – sound out 5 words each day. ( Be careful!!! All of the words below have a digraph, can you spot the digraph in each word before you start?)
Writing:
Continue to practise writing your name neatly.
Letter formation this week is “y”.
“Start at the dot, come down and curve, go up, come all the way down past the line, curve to the left and stop”
Practise writing the letter in a copy/on a sheet of paper.
Alternatively you might like to download the “Letter Formation Workbook” free from the Twinkl website to revise all letters or just page 26 to practise the “y” formation.
( www.twinkl.ie/offer : Under “new to Twinkl” create an account and make sure to enter the offer code IRLTWINKLHELPS )
Children can practise their rhyming, colouring and writing each day with a rhyme worksheet.
Log onto www.cleverlearner.com. In the “reading and writing” section, click on “rhyme : match and trace” and print one worksheet per day. If you are unable to print these, complete orally instead.
Reading:
This week we will practise looking and saying the new sight vocabulary from book 9 “Please” :
Can, we, please, home
( The children will recognise the word “Can” as we have learned this sight word before. The other three words are tricky words so they will not be able to read the words by blending and listening to the sounds. In order to learn each word, the children will need to practise looking at the word and saying it, until they are familiar with it and recognise it on sight. Writing or printing each word separately on paper/card might help. Make sure to practise the four words every day.)
Continue to read/listen to ebooks online. ( Register your own account on www.oxford.co.uk and start with age group 4-5 years. On www.connect.collins.co.uk click on “teacher sign in”, username: parents@harpercollins.co.uk, password: Parents20! Click on Collins Big Cat and start with the pink band. )
Maths
Keep counting backwards and forwards 1-10 ( get a parent to choose the starting number each time
eg. forwards from 3: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. eg. backwards from 6: 6,5,4,3,2,1.)
Continue to practise writing numbers 0-5.
