Hope you are all continuing to stay safe and well. Thanks to everyone who has been in contact with me and sending me the kids work. Its great to be in touch with you and them. Again if there is anything you need or would like to just show me their work I am available at jamielee.gordon@stjosephsgorey.ie
I would be delighted to hear from you. The work I am setting is a guideline please dont feel under pressure to do everything I understand how difficult it is so just do what you can. Every little bit helps. I have tried to break it down to a daily format so I am hoping this will be easier but feel free to do the work in a way that suits you.
Monday:
-News: Children write their news about what they did at the weekend.
-Reading: Go over words on page 2 and read Page 10 . These are available edco learning the book is what a box, but I will also post them here . Talk about what happened on this page.
Maths- Topic time: Count to 12 with the children , look at the face of the clock and talk about it. Get them to name the different numbers and talk about the two hands and the differences between them.
Explain the small hand is the hour hand and the big one is the minute hand.
Use or draw a blank clock template for the children to fill out the numbers in the right order. Repeat if needed.
Say the rhyme hickory dickory dock
-Gaeilge:
Say the words and get the child to repeat. Lots of practice of them. Focloir.ie has an option to listen to the word if you don’t know the pronunciation.
-SPHE – Talk about manners and what it means to have good manners and why manners are important. Discuss when we should use our manners. And then get the children to draw themselves saying the following :
Tuesday:
-Tricky word: right. Talk about the word and explain the difference between right and write. Ask the children to write the word a number of time’s. Get them to think of some sentences and write at least three sentences with the word right.
-Reading page 11 of what a box.
talk about what has happened on the page and what they think will happen next.
-Maths: look back at a clock and revise the two different hands again and which one is the minute and the hour hand.
get the children to make a clock and two hands don’t get them to stick the hands on as we will need to use it for their learning.
We will be only learning about reading the hours on the clock.
You use the clock to show the children different times and show them that the big hand will be at 12 when it is o clock and the smaller hour hand tells us what hour it is. Using the clock you show them different times: 2 o clock, 12 o clock, 6 o clock 9 0 clock.
now you call out times for them to make with their clock.
-Gaeilge: Go back over the words above: ask the children : an maith leat____? (Each of the words) this means do you like ____?
the children answer with: is maith liom if they like it and no maith liom is the don’t like it.

Wednesday:
– Handwriting book: 1 page
– Reading: Read and discuss page 12 of what a box :
-Gaeilge: revise all the words and question.
now practice : Cen sort clar ata ar an teilifis? (what programme is on the television?) you can point to the different pictures of the words and the children say : Ta _____ ar suil ar an teilifis.
-Maths: revise calling out times and getting the children to make different times on the clock.
Draw out the clock faces or use the sheet below that is available on twinkl! You call out hour times and the children draw the hands for that time on the clock.
Play the game : What time is it Mr.Wolf
-Art: design make and decorate a watch using a toilet roll tube
Thursday:

– Reading: Read and discuss page 13. Read back over the whole story.

-Maths: Revise work covered so far this week.
Repeat the same activity as yesterday with the children to draw the hands on the clock but today they are to write the time under the clock
Gaeilge: Revise work covered this week. Get the children to draw three blank televisions them to draw cartun, Nuacht and clar dulra on them.

P.E /SESE : Nature walk . bring your child on a nature walk and see what they can find from the following list it. This can be printed off of twinkl.
Friday:
-Reading : Start the story the club house in the book what a box . This is peg 17 .
-Activity: the children talk about what they think will happen in the story and draw their prediction.
-Writing : Page of handwriting book
-Maths: revise all we have learned about clocks this week , repeat any of the activities that you think they need.
if you can access cj Fallon website Busy at maths book is available online ! The pages for time are 97 to 99 you can work on these if you can.
If not you can play the following board game:
the children must read the time of the clock that they land on.
SESE- talk about your home and what type of house it is. Name the different rooms in the house and complete the following
-Science: make rice crispy buns and ask the following questions , this is all about how the chocolate changes when it heats and cools , you could also discuss how we change when we heat up and cool down and also how water changes when it heats or cools.
Again only do what you can and don’t worry if it’s not all done, there are some fun activities there that the kids will enjoy I would love to know how they get on.
