2nd class discovered a fascinating fact about water when conducting experiments to test if a paperclip can float by itself. Crazy? After all, it should sink as it is heavier than water!
However, equipped only with the statement that paperclips can float, the children set about testing this hypothesis. They succeeded in doing so and learned that water has a skin (surface tension), which enables paperclips to float. Science is so cool!

Using straws as “pipettes”, the children also discovered that the skin (surface tension) of water keeps it from spilling over the coin. Instead the water forms a dome shape.
